12th South, Shine, and John Prine

This weekend we got together for dinner and a show to celebrate the birthday of our good friend, John.  We met at one of our favorite watering holes, 12 South Taproom.  They have an extensive beer menu so this is the place to go if that's your thing.

It's pretty hopping especially around happy hour.

I decided to go with a gluten-free beer because it's better for me, right?

The rest of the table went for more hard core brews.

I tend to lean towards the Mexican menu offerings. I went for Soysage tacos which cancels out the beer. I was being a good girl!

Everything was all decked out for fall. Even the weather got into the act and had a little nip in the air.

We headed back downtown and toasted the birthday boy the best way we know how in Tennessee; with moonshine.

Our drink of choice went well with the show of the night: Steve Earl and John Prine at the Ryman.

Not only was it our friend, John's birthday; but it was also John Prine's!

John Prine lives here in Nashville.  He is such a great story teller and picker (that's guitar player). The first song I ever owned of his was   "In Spite of Ourselves" and is the song he is referring to at the beginning of this video. I found the best version I could of one of my other favorite John Prine songs for those of you who are unfamiliar.
